Last weekend bore witness to a penalty routine nine years in the making. In 2005 you might remember Robert Pires and Thierry Henry making an almighty mess of a penalty against Man City.


Well, we can only assume that South Korean side Jeonbuk Motors have been carefully analysing the footage with a fine tooth comb to see how it could be perfected. And the eureka moment must have finally arrived. You see it seems the problem was that it is necessary for the initial taker to actually make proper contact with the ball and roll it forward. Who'd have thought it?

Just in case you're wondering, Leonardo plays the Pires role in this, passing it off to fellow Brazilian Kaio to score the only goal of the game as the K League champions in waiting defeated Pohang Steelers.
