By John Dodge Updated

Dutch data blog Sargasso  has taken data from the Footballfans.eu site and compiled all results in football history to determine what was the most frequent scoreline was. Would it surprise you to learn that the most frequent scoreline in history was 1-1? 11% of all games between 1901 and 2012 finsihed 1-1. Second most frequent scoreline was a 1-0 home on 10%

If only games from recent times (2000-2012) you can see that 1-1 is still the most frequent scoreline.  Something for gamblers to bear in mind whilst looking at correct score odds.

Sargasso provide a lot of goal statistics. Some more geeky than others. The graph showing how the average goal per game ratio has changed throughout time might interest some though.  Its currently 2.77 goals per game
