While You Were Sleeping, Coutinho Was Absolutely Tearing Up The Copa America

In truth, Philippe Coutinho probably shouldn't have even bothered grabbing his hat-trick to round off a comfortable 7-1 win for Brazil over Haiti in the Copa America last night. That is of course, a resoundingly idiotic thing to say but the fact remains that when Brazil run in a 7-1 win over the whipping boys of Copa America, it only really serves to remind everyone of another famous 7-1 scoreline involving Brazil.

Dunga's side continue to carry the weight of that World Cup massacre and given last night's scoreline, it's only natural that everyone will look to, less than favourable, comparisons. However, you can only beat what's put in front of you and although Brazil 2016 may not be a patch on some of the sides from the past, there's still plenty of talent available to Dunga.

Not least an in form Philippe Coutinho. It's taken a while for the Liverpool attacker to be fully trusted in an international setting but it's unlikely he'll be out of the side any time soon if he keeps up the form he displayed against Haiti.

He opened the scoring after 14 minutes with a typical Coutinho strike.

The second to put Brazil 2-0 up wasn't quite so impressive.

But he finally managed to grab his hat-trick at the very end of the game with an absolute peach.

This will no doubt be prefaced by the fact that one of Latin America's worst sides were the opposition but it was the kind of win that Brazil really needed. A 0-0 draw against Ecuador in the opener seemed to give credence to the belief that this is one of Brazil's worst teams for quite some time. Nonetheless, a 2-2 draw between Peru and Ecuador puts Brazil in the driving seat in Group B and if Coutinho can keep up the kind of form he was showing last night, it will be difficult to fully write off the Brazilians just yet.

Now, if you're a Liverpool fan, let's just hope Barcelona scouts don't take too much notice of spanking Haiti.
