7 Inappropriate Places We've All Worn Tracksuit Bottoms To

After the enormous reaction to our tribute to Canterbury tracksuit bottoms last week, we're glad to hear that it wasn't just us whose lives have been filled with goodness of leisurely pants.

Sometimes however that leisure can get the better of us. It becomes something we can't let go off. It gets to the point that even when we really shouldn't be wearing tracksuit bottoms we simply can't resist. Here are just a few examples of those times when we gave in to temptation.

1. School

Recommended

'But Miss, I've got PE second class!'

It wasn't just that tracksuit bottoms were more comfortable in school it was a) our love for doing anything that hinted at even a small bit of rebellion against the norm and b) in a world where accessorising was nigh-on impossible, you couldn't help but think of yourself as a sexy beast/minx when wearing trackies.

In hindsight, a tracksuit bottom plus shirt, tie and woolly jumper combo ain't all that appealing.

Another place you could stage a mini rebellion by showing up in tracksuit bottoms; thus ensuring that most of your time would be spent making sure that the zip opening on the bottoms of the legs were at a perfect length rather than praying.

Of course if you had a match that day then showing up to mass in the club tracksuit bottoms and hoodie was an absolute necessity. People need to know you're a big deal. Feck it, even if you don't usually go to mass you just go anyway, to show off the gear and that you're on the team.

3. Teenage discos

Why did people wear tracksuit bottoms to discos? Because they were cool.  'I don't really care about you and this disco, I'm just here to rock my green and gold Australia Canterburys.'

The thing was, not only did you think it was cool, everyone did! The rarer the tracksuit bottom the better. As was said in our office when discussing this trend, in the mid-2000s tracksuit bottoms were the skinny jeans of the teenage disco world.

4. Work

Hands up who's worn tracksuit bottoms to work?

Never the most professional decision to make really, unless you work as a sports coach or something. In fact in our line of work, when you're on an evening shift you can genuinely show up in pair of tracksuit bottoms because you were so comfortable that you completely forgot to change.

Wearing them to a job interview is the dream!

5. On the farm

I'm spreading, I'm wearing work boots and I'm rocking a pair of tracksuit bottoms.

 6. At a family reunion

Your mother is desperate you don't let the side down so imagine her dismay when you arrive down in a pair of tracksuit bottoms. What will the in-laws think? What will all your cousins think? They'll think you're the bomb, that's what they'll think!

7. On a date

Usually no one would do this on first date ... Would they? I mean, sure, when you get to know someone well enough you get to that stage that both of you get so lazy that you're probably sharing the one pair of tracksuit bottoms at the one time but no one would turn up to a first date in a pair of tracksuit bottoms.

I can't think of anyone off the top of my head anyhow.
