Colm O'Rourke says that Sean Boylan will be involved in the Meath backroom under his management.

O'Rourke was confirmed as Meath manager this week with former players Stephen Bray and Barry Callaghan as his selectors.

The 64-year-old O'Rourke won two All-Irelands with Meath when Boylan was manager. In all, Boylan won four All-Ireland titles as Meath manager, in 1987, 1988, 1996, and 1999.

'He will have open access to the Meath team'

"Of course I can also turn to Seán Boylan," O'Rourke wrote in his Sunday Independent column.

"He will have open access to the team as adviser, counsellor, motivator or whatever else he wants to be.

"He makes people feel good about themselves and young people like him. That is another ingredient of good management. If you get on well with people it makes things a lot easier."

During the week, O'Rourke was asked about the makeup of his backroom team and in particular Kerrymen Eamonn Fitzmaurice and Donie Buckley being linked with roles.

"Ah well I think that Stephen and Barry and myself have a lot of talking to do before we come up with the people for the backroom team," O'Rourke told LMFM.

"There's no big panic on that in so far as we will be able to do that over the next month or so. We will be trying to put as good a group in place...I'm a great believer in having a management structure in place where the manager is the person who needs to know the least but who you can trust the most.

"I like the idea of bringing in people who may be better at a lot of things than I am and that works very well in every organisation I have been involved in so I intend to continue that."

Prior to Sunday's All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Championship final between Kerry and Meath, Sean Boylan spoke to TG4.

"This team has been a lifeline to every single one of us," said Boylan about the defending All-Ireland champions Meath.

"After Covid, we had a common denominator while they were on their way up. It has continued.

"We love the football they play. We love how they just get on with the game. No fighting, no arguing."
