Initial scans have confirmed Staunton broke both her tibia and fibula bones in her right leg. She will have more tests to establish the full extent of the damage.

A statement confirmed surgery is expected: "The GIANTS’ medical staff is working closely with Staunton with surgery expected in the coming days."

It comes soon after it was confirmed Staunton had signed a new deal with the side for the 2020 AFLW season. It was to be the 11-time All-Star's third season with the Giants.

They finished in third place Conference B last season.
