It was a wonderful night for Cork camogie at Croke Park on Saturday as the All-Ireland champions celebrated winning eight PwC All-Star awards to cap off what was an incredible season.

Rebels Amy O’Connor, Katrina Mackey, Hannah Looney, Libby Coppinger, Meabh Cahalane, Laura Treacy, Amy Lee and Saoirse McCarthy all took home awards on a brilliant night for the sport.

The defeated finalists Waterford picked up three PwC Camogie All-Stars, with Vikki Falconer chosen at corner back, Lorraine Bray in midfield and Beth Carton chosen at centre forward.

Carton was further honoured as she won the PwC GPA Senior Camogie Player of the Year award.

Amongst Cork's eight All-Stars is the aforementioned Hannah Looney who took one of the half-forward slots on the team.

Looney had a memorable year on the field, scoring a point in the final, as Cork won their first O'Duffy Cup in five years.

The following week she was rowed down the River Lee with cup, something at the time which she described on social media as a "dream come true."

Cork Camogie All-Star explains rowing down the River Lee

In the aftermath of winning her All-Star last night she explained the inspiration as to how the event unfolded.

"I got the All-Ireland, I got the All-Star but that was definitely the highlight of my year," she told Balls.ie.

"I'm always a bit of craic. I think it was back in 2019, we were going through the paces in training and I was like 'lads if we ever win the All-Ireland just row me down the Lee, I've had enough of this hard slog' and of course Amy Lee of all people had these connections and made it happen.

"I didn't really think it was happening. It was like day two on the beer and Amy Lee goes 'you're going down The Lee tomorrow'.

"I was like 'ah you're joking' and she told me I better be there at 12pm.

"I rang her at 11:30am and asked her was if it was actually happening and she was like 'oh their going'. I got Amy O'Connor, our trusted captain, to drop me down.

"It was some laugh. Everyone went down the banks and we just had a bit of craic, that's what it's all about."

It was Looney's fourth Camogie All-Star and she was certain that she would celebrate in style.

"I'm hoping to get to Coppers now," she said.

"That's the plan. We'll have a bit of a boogie here and hopefully get there in our dresses and heels."
