Just over two weeks after stepping down from his role as Clare manager, Davy Fitgerald is set to take the Wexford job.

The Wexford Echo first reported that the 45-year-old is set to take over from Liam Dunne. This year was Dunne's fifth in charge of the county. He was interviewed for the job last week but is now not being considered for a sixth year in charge.

Fitzgerald could be ratified at a meeting of the Wexford county board tonight.

After winning the All-Ireland with Clare in 2013, Fitzgerald and his panel had a disappointing following three seasons. This year Clare were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the Championship by Galway. Wexford also exited the Championship at the same stage to Waterford.

Should he get the job, it will be the third county team which Fitzgerald has managed.

In the hurling All-Star nominations list, which was announced this morning, Clare have three names while Wexford have two.
