'We've Learnt Over The Last Few Years That This Dublin Team Has Bottle'

Dublin retained their Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football Championship title with a five-point victory over Kildare at O'Moore Park in Portlaoise.

Dublin led throughout the 60 minutes but Kildare kept it close through goals from Tadhg Donlan and Evan Boyle.

"We kept kicking over the points. It was a brilliant win. We didn't lose our heads," Castleknock's Lenny Cahill, scorer of seven points in the 0-19 to 2-8 victory, told TG4.

Dublin manager Damien Fennelly said the game was the first time where he felt his side had been "really been put to the pin of our collar".

"Our lads responded quite well," he said.

"We've learnt over the last few years that this team has bottle. We were behind on many occasions in other competitions and they just have it in spades. I'm delighted they showed it on one of the biggest stages so far. They knuckled down and stuck to their task.

"This goes back to how we started off in the early months of the year. This is the way you build that. You go back to tournaments we played last year. We knew we had that in spades.

"We have leaders from every team that they come from. It's nearly the captain or the pivotal man of that team. They stick together, they fight for each other. They have this honesty with each other.

"They're a very different group. They push their own standards. I have a handy job, they demand things of themselves. They ain't happy coming into this game, and I know they won't be happy with certain aspects of this game. That's what brings on the character."

In the All-Ireland quarter-final, Dublin will face the runner-up in this Friday's Munster final between Cork and Kerry.

"These are quite a laid-back bunch and we don't try to make things any different for them," said Fennelly.

"It's proper All-Ireland series now, and there's only eight teams left in it. I think it's Munster we're going down to, two very good teams. We find out on Friday who that is.

"We keep at it. Last year, the break was unfortunate. They had a long time between the Leinster final and the All-Ireland quarter-final. We have 10 days this time.

"A week this week was tough but 10 days gives us that little bit extra time to get a couple of things under control - recovery, study our opposition and make our plan.

"I'd rather have it 10 days than two weeks. I think they'll be ready. This should help us. It doesn't matter who you play but it's going to be tough."
