Gardaí are said to be investigating the wild celebrations involving players from the St. Patrick's Ballyragget GAA club which took place during the week.

Following the club's victory in the Kilkenny Intermediate Hurling Championship final against Graigue-Ballycallan on Sunday, partying continued into Tuesday night.

Images and videos from the celebrations - which involved two women named Fifi and Sabrina, along with the Intermediate Championship cup - landed in WhatsApp groups around the country late on Tuesday and Wednesday.

RTÉ report that Gardaí have not received any complaints but are looking into the circumstances surrounding the capturing of the images featuring a very much naked Fifi and Sabrina. One image features a player involved in a sex act with one of the women.

According to an Irish Independent source, the party was for the 21st birthday of a young man who was the main focus of attention from the two women.

However, a small group continued celebrating into Tuesday as it was the young man's 21st birthday. The cup remained in the pub since the Sunday night and that is why it featured in the pictures. This was not a GAA event, or an event that was linked to Ballyragget GAA club in any way.

Fifi and Sabrina, initially described as 'strippers' - though their services appear to have gone beyond the remit of that job description - are said to have been hired by a man not connected to the GAA club and also without the knowledge of the players.

Mistakes were made in Ballyragget on Tuesday night. The initiation of an investigation, from the outside, appears to be an overreaction.

Ballyragget are scheduled to play Ardclough of Kildare in the Leinster Club IHC next weekend. It's a game which should certainly receive plenty of attention.
