The San Francisco 49ers have confirmed that Fergus Connolly will be working with them next year in a new created position called "Director of Elite Performance".
In the 49ers press release they say that Connolly will "work intimately with football operations to develop innovative sports and performance science practices geared towards player welfare and performance optimization."
Connolly is at the cutting edge of sports science and has an impressive CV. He has worked with the likes of the Dublin Footballers,Greater Western Sydney Giants, The Welsh Rugby Union and as a performance consultant with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cleveland Browns.
After a year where the 49ers came so close to an NFC Championship this addition signals their intent to find the edge in every facet of the game.
In the States reaction to Connolly's appointment has been met with optimism as fans have been wowed by his CV.
