St Kieran's College is to hurling what the Cavern Club is to British rock music. So many of Kilkenny's great hurlers learn their trade there. No college has won more Croke Cups. In fact Kieran's have lifted Ireland's premiere schools hurling cup three times in a row and 5 times this decade.

Reader James Crotty was kind enough to share us the following photo that just about captures the devotion to hurling at Kieran's. Here we are in the middle of September and Kieran's students have their hurleys with them at school.

He included the following caption: "Came across this sight in Kilkenny this morning, a group of st.kierans college secondary students were attending mass. The only time we don't play hurling down in the home of hurling is when we have to say our prayers. The future of hurling in Kilkenny is alive and well??"

No hurleys in church - a Kilkenny golden rule.
