The GAA have appointed David Coldrick to officiate the 2015 Senior Football Final. Coldrick has just two Senior All-Irelands under his belt having been selected in 2007 and 2010. He faces into this tough assignment with a number of obstacles before him.
It's five years since the Meath man last took charge of an All-Ireland final and the game has changed significantly since then which could expose his lack of experience.
The black card offence has attracted excessive attention this summer with several card-given incidents being re-interpreted at length on the Sunday Game. The Meath referee will not have the support of a TMO on September 20 and every decision is sure to be scrutinised as the prevailing factor in the outcome.
Judging by the fixtures played this season, this will be a brutal encounter. The first Dublin v Mayo game produced a spate of cards while others narrowly avoided conviction. The added dimension of the age old rivalry between Kerry and Dublin will mean that the physical exchanges will be frequent and savage.
Coldrick has also refereed Ulster Finals in 2010, 2013 and 2015, Munster Finals in 2006 and 2011 and the Connacht decider in 2008 as well as a few All-Ireland Senior Club Finals. This season he oversaw encounters between Kerry and Kildare, Monaghan and Donegal, Dublin and Kildare, and Armagh and Donegal.
Meanwhile, fellow Meath man David Gough has been selected to referee the Minor Final between Kerry and Tipperary. Gough came to prominence earlier this year when his request to wear a 'Yes Equality' wristband was rejected by Croke Park.
