A Senator who once bemoaned the “culture of entitlement" created by the Irish social welfare system has complained at the fact that she has not been granted two tickets to the All-Ireland football final this Sunday between Mayo and Dublin.

Senator Michelle Mulherin, who was nominated to the Seanad by Enda Kenny in May, hails from Ballina in County Mayo, and she is voicing her frustrations at a time when demand for tickets is typically fierce ahead of Mayo's attempts to win their first All-Ireland since 1951.

Mulherin is quoted in the Irish Independent as saying that the GAA's policy regarding ticket allocation "is clear discrimination...in relation to members of the Oireachtas". She was speaking after GAA Director General Paraic Duffy refused her request for tickets via a letter which was seen by the Indo.

A GAA spokesperson said that the Association was "more than satisfied that it looks after public representatives in an appropriate manner when it comes to the allocation of tickets for our games".
