Following Roscommon's defeat of London four weeks ago, Shane Curran, on the Sunday Game, questioned the exiles' place in the Connacht Football Championship.

Curran said that it was hard to see the value of teams playing London.

They’ll come once every 35 or 40 years with a team that can compete but the overall job of what they’re doing to the Championship isn’t that good.

Roscommon will be just delighted to get out of it with no injured players and to prepare for the game against Sligo in three weeks time.

It’s hard to see what the worth in these games are to the Connacht championship or to Roscommon.

London were knocked out of the qualifiers after a 17 point loss to Cavan in Ruislip on Saturday.

Post-game, London manager Paul Coggins spoke to RTÉ about Curran's comments.

It was a very silly statement to make by a guy that should know better. I’m disappointed with it.

There is more to it than football. We are exiles. Every family in Ireland knows someone....there wouldn’t be too many that wouldn’t have been hit by emigration. We had no choice that we had to come over here. The statement was absolutely out of order and always will be.

What was done that Sunday night was wrong, it was disappointing. I’ll stick up for my lads. We work hard, we do everything every (other) county does. That was a wrong statement to make.
