The Sunday Independent reports today that a young footballer from Monaghan has failed a drug test. The player in question is not a current member of the inter county squad but was involved with the squad at one stage. The player tested positive for a steroid and will be the subject of an investigation by the Irish Sports Council's Anti-Doping unit.

The Independent also reports that it is not known what explanation if any has been offered by the player for the findings and that the GPA is helping the player. This would mark the first time a GAA player has tested positive for a performance enhancing drug if no explanation is found. The Sunday Times went with the story on their front page today:
