It's hard to see how this wouldn't end in controversy.

For some reason the powers that be in Listowel, Co Kerry thought it would be a good idea to invite Bernard Brogan to switch on the Christmas lights in the town. That's right. They've chosen a Dublin footballer to perform one of the most popular ceremonies of the year.

Needless to say, many Kerry GAA fans have taken umbrage to the decision and the Herald report that some of them have gone on local radio to voice their disapproval. However, Jennifer Stack of the Listowel Independent Traders told the paper she is disappointed if anyone feels insulted by Brogan's imminent arrival.

In fairness to Bernard, his mother comes from Listowel and Billy Keane said the town is very proud of him but surely to God they could have found a Kerry footballer to turn the lights on? There has to be at least one half-decent player in the county somewhere.
