Tipperary star Jake Morris has suffered a suspected broken jaw after being on the receiving end of a nasty tackle during a club match over the weekend.

The 24-year old was lining out for local side Nenagh Éire Óg in the North Tipperary Senior Hurling final, with his team going on to defeat Kiladangan by 0-21 to 0-17 in the decider. However, much of the post-match discussion focused on the apparent injury picked up by the inter-county star.

The incident in question occurred late on in the game, with  Kiladangan’s James Quigley producing a very poor challenge on the Nenagh man. According to reports, it was punished with a yellow card, a second for Quigley, who was sent off for the challenge.

It was said in the aftermath of the game that Morris had suffered a suspected broken jaw, with the forward now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines as result.

Challenges such as this one have become an increasing talking point in the sport in recent times, with some players crossing the line in terms of the physicality they bring when stopping onto the pitch. Unfortunately, such a hit resulted in what looks like a serious injury on this occasion.

While it is always difficult to judge intent during incident such as this one, the challenge was reckless at best.

This result guaranteed Nenagh at least a preliminary quarter-final in this year's Tipperary championship, a route they will only need to go down should they fail to emerge from their group.

With that fixture pencilled in for seven weeks time, it currently looks unlikely that Morris will be available for selection. That would be quite the blow for the club, who are hoping to reach a first county final since 2018.
