2K announced the release date for WWE 2K Battlegrounds today, and it looks insane.

The arcade-style brawler will bring over-the-top WWE action to a new level of intensity. It features a roster of more than 70 WWE Superstars and Legends, with additional Superstars to be released after the launch.

There are eight unique Battlegrounds environments to play in. Most of them feature interactive elements and crazy melee weapons that players can use to obliterate opponents. Players can soar in military helicopters, smash opponents with cars in an auto shop and throw other fighters into the jaws of a hungry alligator in a swamp. It certainly is WWE like we've never seen it! Players will also be able to customise environments to give playing that extra personal touch.

“We know WWE fans and gamers enjoy a wide variety of experiences, and with WWE 2K Battlegrounds, we’re presenting a whole new dimension through arcade-style gameplay that’s completely different than our WWE 2K simulation franchise," said Chris Snyder, Vice President of Marketing for 2K. "We look forward to seeing everyone tear it up with friends and family in the Battlegrounds.”

WWE 2K Battlegrounds Roster

Players will be able to choose from the biggest WWE stars today, like Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Becky Lynch, Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston. They'll be joined by legendary wrestlers such as the Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Andre the Giant. More unlockable Superstars will be available in the future via updates. There'll be something for all generations of wrestling lovers in this game, while there is also an option to build your own character with the Superstar Creator function.

Each Superstar utilises one of five class styles, and each style has its own combat moves, strengths and weaknesses. There will be a choice of Powerhouse, Technician, High-Flyer, Brawler and All-Rounder. Crazy arcade-style powerups, such as Flaming Fist, Ice Breath and Earthquake, provide extra excitement. These elements add a whole new dimension to the game that wouldn't be seen in the usual 2K games.
