While most of the golfing world will be focusing on the upcoming Ryder Cup after the completion of the PGA's Tour Championship, golf enthusiasts in the country have a big event to look forward to before the team competition in Rome at the end of September.

The Irish Open will take place next week, with the event returning to the K Club for the first time since 2016. Amazingly, this will only the second time the tournament has been held at the iconic Kildare venue, although it will also host it in 2025 and 2027.

The biggest names in Irish golf are all set to take part, with Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington, and Seamus Power all confirmed to be in the field.

While those players will draw in sizeable crowds once the Irish Open gets underway on Thursday, we are also likely to see quite a few make their way to the course on the Wednesday to see some big stars that you might not necessarily associate with the game of golf.

The Irish Open will take place at the K Club from September 7th-10th, although the events pro-am will take place on Wednesday, September 6th.

That event will see some of the golfers mentioned above team up with some of the biggest names in Irish sport, with a number of well-known personalities confirmed to be taking part.

A number of top GAA players will take part, including Kerry's David Clifford, Limerick's Cian Lynch, and Dublin's Dean Rock. Munster Rugby player Joey Carbery will also be part of the field, as will ex-Ireland and Ulster stars Rory Best and Tommy Bowe.

Former jockey Bryan Cooper, ex-Cork Ladies star Valeria Mulcahy, well known impressionist Conor Moore (aka Conor Sketches) are also on the list.

It will be interesting to see how that bunch get on in a less familiar sporting arena.

Tickets for the tournament can be purchased here.
