Padraig Harrington currently finds himself in a tie for fourth at the Genesis Scottish Open on the DP World Tour.

An impressive first two rounds has left him on seven under par, after playing what he described as his best golf from 'tee to green, in a long time'.

Given Harrington's form in the Champions Tour, some eye-catching rounds in the main tour majors, and his overall experience, the 52-year-old Dubliner has been brewing up some Ryder Cup hype for himself.

With the tournament beginning in late September, and a lack of obvious options outside the top 8-9 players, it is not out of the question that Harrington could get one of Luke Donald's six captain's picks.

After his round of four under par today, he was asked about the Ryder Cup possibility, and certainly did not play down the hype.

I’m in a nice place I’ll see how I play over the next two weeks and then I’ll have a chat with Luke and if necessary I’ll change my schedule, and come back and play a few in Europe, which I haven't.

My intention is to go and play some Champions Tour events. But if I’m genuinely in contention I'm prepared to make the effort and change my schedule and come back and prove it.

"Played solid, driven it very straight," said Harrington of today's round.

"Haven't got myself in any trouble at all really in two days. Maybe on one today, my 10th hole, was the only time I had to play back to the fairway. The rest of the time if I haven't hit the fairway, I've hit the first cut. So it's reasonably easy to play golf from there.

"We'll see more after these couple of weeks. This is the best I've played, tee to green, in a long time. I've been playing better, and getting better, and doing things better.

"The Champions Tour has got my focus better, I've got my putting better. Now this week, with an eye on next week, I was trying to get my head in the right place for next Thursday and I've seem to have managed to do that a week early."
