Rory McIlroy's ankle is probably the most famous injury in golf since Tiger Woods won his last major at the US Open in 2008 on a broken leg.

McIlroy ruptured his ankle ligaments playing five-a-side with his friends ahead of the British Open at St. Andrew's. With no one sure when the World No. 1 is set to return, McIlroy has posted this instagram picture of just how bad his ankle looked four and three weeks ago respectively:

4 and a half and 3 and a half weeks ago respectively... I've come a long way since.

It looks like there was a driver cover in his ankle, and the scarring a week later after the swelling. It's no wonder he isn't back yet.

Given that the final major of the year is almost exactly six weeks since his injury, there is no telling whether he will be ready to defend his crown. With images like that, it'll just be nice to see him back sooner rather than later.
