Former WWE superstar CM Punk is set to make his UFC debut in September as part of an exciting card for UFC 203.
Punk, or Phil Brooks to use his real name, has become a huge source of controversy since announcing his plans to fight in the octagon, as many fighters are not happy that he has been given such a stage for his first professional fight, which also happens to be his first fight ever.
Fans, however, fall into one of two categories; Those who are intrigued and want to see how this strange experiment works out, and those who wish to take the piss out of Brooks for looking like an amateur, and it was the latter group who were vocal when the UFC live-streamed one of CM Punk's training sessions ahead of UFC 203.
He may not be the most naturally talented fighter, in fact he definitely isn't, but he does deserve respect for following his heart and risking great humiliation, all the time working his ass off.
The Facebook commenters did not share the sentiment, and instead ripped on every aspect of the session.
Granted, these are people on Facebook who will not bother CM Punk one bit, but there have been a lot of criticisms of the striking and wrestling techniques that we have seen from people who do know what they are talking about, and the UFC are giving CM Punk a huge platform to perform, so there will be a lot of pressure on his shoulders come UFC 203.
But it's going to be watched by A LOT of people, and it's easy to see why. Those who are intrigued will tune in to see what happens, and those who are hating on Punk will tune in for a laugh, but they'll tune in and that's all that matters to the UFC lately it seems.
Now it's up to Phil Brooks to prove that this idea wasn't a bad one.
