We're not alleging that racism in ice hockey began whenever Canadians began watching Spanish football, but as someone who's spent extensive time in North America, I must say I've never seen the banana used as a racist device in a sporting context before what happened to Wayne Simmonds the other night (though as usual we're open to correction)
