World Rugby, the new name for the IRB, has issued a statement saying that, after a review, George North should not have stayed on the pitch following the second of his knocks (see below) against England on Friday last.
Following a full post-incident review, World Rugby believes that Wales player George North should not have remained on the field of play following a head impact in the 61st minute of the Wales versus England RBS 6 Nations match at the Millennium Stadium on Friday night.
North was taken away for checks after the first incident but not after the second, Wales were widely condemned for not removing him from play. The WRU argued that they were not in a position from which they could see the incident and its severity, something which World Rugby accepted. Bizarrely, the WRU did not have access to TV footage despite those watching on TV being able to watch the incident several times, this will now be rectified for future games.
