With COVID having an impact on everyone's cinema-going habits, it's arguable that one of the genres where you really do miss the cinema experience is horror.
However, Netflix have recently added a wonderful home invasion horror/thriller that's definitely a hidden gem, I See You.
In terms of the plot, the story kicks-off when a 12-year-old boy goes missing in a small town. However, the lead investigator on the case Greg Harper (Jon Tenney) is struggling to balance the pressure of the investigation and the domestic issues that he's having with his wife, Jackie (Helen Hunt).
After Jackie recently had an affair, a great strain is put on the family that slowly gnaws away at her grip on reality. However, after a malicious presence manifests itself in their home and puts their son in mortal danger, the cold, hard truth about evil in the Harper household is uncovered.
In terms of its tone, what's really clever is how I See You starts off as a supernatural film but then evolves into something that's far more sinister and creepy.
Massive credit goes to the writer (Devon Graye) and director (Adam Randall) because very few horror films take the time to weave a plot that has so many twists and turns. However, the story is very easy to follow and it has an extremely eerie and unnerving atmosphere throughout.
After the first 15 minutes, you'll be convinced that I See You is a certain type of horror film but by the end credits, you'll be thinking about the ending for a while and trying to put the various pieces together.
Since being released, the film has made a big impression on critics and viewers alike. At present, I See You boasts a rating of 77% and 65% on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic respectively.

It's fair to say that viewers have been equally as impressed.
