Storm Agnes made landfall this morning, as expected hitting the southwest coast first. Met Eireann has warned that Agnes is set to be a 'whole day event', with the storm set to peak between 10am and 3pm today.

Since coming onto the Irish shore, Storm Agnes has already caused mass destruction with more to be expected.

Thousands of Cork homes are now without power, some even without their roofs as gusts over over 100km/h have been recorded.

A gust of 111km/h was recorded at Sherkin Island this morning.

Not only has the first of Ireland's major autumn storms caused damage to homes and buildings, but it has also caused major traffic disruptions.

Reports of fallen trees, flooded roads and reduced visibility on Irish roads due to torrential rainfall and strong winds are being reported every second.

Storm Agnes makes landfall in Ireland

In Youghal Strand, Co.Cork a roof has been blown off a building due to strong gusty winds.

A ferry just outside of Cobh loses it's direction due to the powerful currents and waves produced by Storm Agnes.

 

Worrying images in Cork as streets are already starting to flood, with a lot more rainfall expected today.
