While Netflix are more known for their original series, they have quietly been building an impressive repertoire of original movies in recent years.
The Irishman, The Two Popes, and Marriage Story all received Oscar consideration earlier this year, while the likes of Extraction and Bird Box have proven to be hugely popular in the past couple of years.
With the numbers of subscribers to the site always on the increase, some of those films have drawn in massive viewing numbers.
Normally Netflix keeps their viewing figures close to their chests, but they have moved away from that policy in recent days. This week, they revealed to Bloomberg their ten most viewed original movies.
The list, which relate to the amount of views each film got in the four weeks after its initial release, includes some surprising titles.
Extraction comes in first place, with the Chris Hemsworth led action movie racking 99million views in just four weeks earlier this year. That smashed the previous record that had been set by Bird Box in 2018, which now sits in second place.
The Irishman, probably the most highly anticipated Netflix original in the buildup to its release, only ranks sixth on the list.
The rest of the top ten is made up mostly of comedy movies, including the likes of Murder Mystery, The Wrong Missy, and The Perfect Date.
Extraction topping the list is a bit of a surprise, but its release date may have played a part. The film was released near the start of lockdown, when the amount of spare time on many people's hands massively increased.
