This just keeps getting worse.

The already infamous Oireachtas Golf Society dinner has added to the Government's headache over the last 24 hours, with many now questioning their credibility after a number of Fine Gale and Fianna members broke their own social distancing guidelines to attend the event in Clifden.

People have resigned, some have apologised, while others have made a point of not doing so.

It is highly likely that we are only at the beginning of what is set to be a developing story, as this shows.

It has emerged that former Independent TD for Cavan-Monaghan Paudge Connolly broke quarantine rules to attend the event.

The Irish Times report that Connolly had been at a golf competition in Spain only nine days prior to Wednesday's event in Clifden.

With Spain not currently on the 'green list', Government guidelines require that individuals who return from these countries quarantine for 14 days.

A Facebook post from the golf society of McCafferty’s bar in Cabo Roig, of which the former TD is a member, showed that he had played in a competition at La Finca course on August 11th.

He won the stroke play event with a score of 77.

Paudge Connolly appeared on Shannonside Radio's 'Joe Finnegan Show' earlier today to admit attending the Clifden event, but failed to mention the quarantine breach.

Yes I did attend the event and yes it was a very severe lack of judgement to have attended that event that evening.

While he is not involved with the current Government, this is only likely to add further fuel to the fire.

Many people feel that it is one rule for them and another for the political elite, something that is difficult to argue with at this point.
