Financial Times columnist Tim Harford - sometimes known as 'The Undercover Economist' - launched a new podcast earlier this month titled 'Cautionary Tales'.

Just as fairytales teach life lessons to children, the real life stories told on the podcast are intended to educate adults and help them learn from the mistakes of others.

Three episodes have been released so far.

'DANGER: Rocks Ahead!' deals with the 1967 Torrey Canyon shipwreck off the coast of Cornwall and the decision-making process which led to it.

'The Rogues Dressed as a Captain' explains the psychological tricks which con men use and why humans are so susceptible to them.

'La La Land: Galileo's Warning' starts with the mix-up at the 2017 Oscars which saw 'La La Land' wrongly announced as best picture and how why it happened was explained centuries earlier by Galileo.

Future episodes will take listeners aboard a doomed airship, to a concert stage in front of a broken piano and put them in a room with cult members as the end of the world counts down.

Episodes include the voices of actors Alan Cumming, Archie Panjabi, Toby Stephens and Russell Davies.

You can listen to the show on Stitcher or where ever else you get your podcasts.
