We've had more bountiful evenings for the films on TV recommendations, but we've cobbled together six that will pass your evening. There is one standout from the bunch, but there is something for everyone depending on your mood.

As usual, all of these films are available on non subscription channels, though may not be on all platforms.

Year: 2009

Cast: Denzel Washington, John Travolta

A flawed action movie but very watchable.

The Other Guys: 9.00PM, Comedy Central

Year: 2010

Cast: Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg

Plot: Two mismatched New York City detectives seize an opportunity to step up like the city's top cops, whom they idolize, only things don't quite go as planned. (IMDB)

Rating: 78% (Rotten Tomatoes)

There are a lot of Mark Wahlberg films on TV these days. This "original odd couple" style cop movie with Will Ferrell has its moments. Notable and enjoyable cameos from Samuel L. Jackson and The Rock who are probably in a better film in a parallel universe.

Trainspotting: 10.55PM, Film Four

Year: 1996

Cast: Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner, Kelly Macdonald

Plot: Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends. (IMDB)

Rating: 91% (Rotten Tomatoes)

Easily the best film on TV tonight if you can stay up late enough. An all time classic that put almost everyone involved on a rocketship to stardom.

Empire State: 11.15PM, Sony Movie Channel

Year: 2013

Cast: Dwayne Johnson, Liam Hemsworth, Michael Angarano

Plot: Two childhood friends plan to rob an armored-car depository, but an NYPD officer stands in their way. (IMDB)

Rating: 24% (Rotten Tomatoes)

Not a good film but if you want to spend the evening with The Rock (and why wouldn't you?), this is for you.
