Two Irish players come in for huge praise for their showings during today's NAB AFL Women's tie between GWS Giants and the Carlton. It finished in victory for Carlton on a scoreline of 10.5 (65) to 5.6 (36).

Despite being on the losing side, Yvonne Bonner and Cora Staunton both impressed on the day with the pair amongst the goals at Blacktown International Sportspark.

In the case of Donegal's Bonner, her striker was hailed as a "goal of the season contender." It came thanks to a glorious left-footed curling effort.

Bonner has enjoyed a spectacular debut season since joining and finished the game with 13 disposals and eight marks.

Mayo's Cora Staunton, back for her second season with the outfit, also grabbed a goal.

Head coach Alan McConnell singled Bonner out for praise in his post-match interview: "She’s pretty amazing for a girl that’s played three games. Our forwards - to be honest - were pretty effective when we got the ball to them."

The loss means that the Giants have lost all three of their matches and will now need to win every remaining game if they hope to make a preliminary final.
