Gerard Pique was sent off in the second leg of Barcelona's 5-1 aggregate loss to Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup for allegedly hurling graphic abuse at a linesman about his mother and could receive a ban of up to 12 games.

The Barcelona defender was incensed after a decision from the linesman and angrily approached him before allegedly making some highly unsavoury comments regarding the official's mother.

Barcelona were leading the match 1-0 when Pique supposedly said "I shit on your whore of a mother" before receiving a red card. A video of the incident shows how infuriated he was approaching the linesman.

While the abuse appears extremely excessive (and creative), it must be noted that the phrase, me cago en tu puta madre, is a common Spanish insult. Not that it takes away from the fact that abused an official in such a manner.

Spanish FA rules states that Pique could receive a ban of between four and 12 games for "using insults, verbal abuse or having an insulting attitude" during the incident.
