The breakthrough Liam Scales has experienced with both Celtic and Ireland in recent months is without doubt one of the most uplifting stories of the season so far.

For a period, it was difficult to predict how the next stage of the Wicklow man's career was going to play out. He had yet to make his mark in Glasgow and looked likely to leave the club at one point during the summer. As well as that, he was well down the pecking order when it came to securing a place in the Ireland squad.

That is all a distant memory now.

Liam Scales has been in sensational form this season, starring in both domestic and European competition for Celtic. As well as that, he also made his international debut and already looks at home at that level.

It has been a remarkable rise, one that looks unlikely to be halted anytime soon.

Football Scotland are reporting that Belgian club Anderlecht are considering a move for the Irishman having sent scouts to watch him in recent times.

They could make a move for him as soon as the January transfer window, with the defender having only 18 months remaining on his current deal. However, it would likely take a significant offer in order for Celtic to consider moving him on.

The most successful club in Belgian football, Anderlecht had a disastrous season in 2022/23 that saw them finish 11th in the Belgian Pro League. They have bounced back well from that in the current campaign, currently sitting second in the league.

Liam Scales would not be the first Ireland international to play for the club in recent times, with Josh Cullen spending two seasons there prior to his move to Burnley in 2022.

It will be interesting to see if the push for a deal in the months ahead.
