Messi's Penalty And No Friends At Man United - Cristiano Ronaldo Really Doesn't Help Himself

Why the hell would they even put him forward?

We're not quite sure what Real Madrid were trying to achieve by sticking Cristiano Ronaldo up alongside Zinedine Zidane for the pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's clash with Roma but we're guessing they may be regretting it.

Ronaldo has given everyone ample opportunity to criticise his ego once more after he 'stormed' out of Tuesday's press conference when the fairly blatant wind-up questions just got too much for him. It must be said that 'storming' out of a press conference is a phrase that's a tad overused but nonetheless, it's fair to say that Ronaldo's performance was anything but an exercise in quality public relations.

The Real Madrid attacker is a purposeful individual. He wants to be the best in the world and he has no time for anyone questioning that goal and that's all well and good. It's his personality that has ensured he'll always strive to be the best but again we have to ask, if he's not good with questions then why elect him to go forward in front of the press?

It was only ever going to go one way - *So Cristiano what did you think of that cracking Messi penalty at the weekend, great wasn't it?

Messi's penalty? I know why he did it but I don't have more to add.

Ah so you're a bit jealous that he's getting all the plaudits. Moving on, Barca are great aren't they? Do you think it's because they seem to be enjoying themselves and that they get on so well together that makes them so great?

How do we know that [their relationship] is that way? It is only because that is what is written.

When I was at United, I didn’t speak to Giggs, Scholes and Ferdinand apart from the normal ‘good morning’ but we won the Champions League.

We talked on the pitch and that is all that mattered. Does it matter that I don’t go out for dinner with Benzema or that Bale does not come around my house? It is not important. This thing about the little meals, the little hugs, the little kisses. To me that doesn’t mean anything.

*We've paraphrased those questions but you get the point, the answers are entirely his.

And last but not least. Cristiano, you're crap and you don't score away from home, why is that?

The reporter may well have been attempting to wind him up but he doesn't half make it easy for them.
