Serie A clubs have taken a particular interest in many Irish talents over the past number of years and it looks like another Irishman, Andrew Omobamidele, could be set for a move to Italy.

Since Brexit, Irish youngsters have been forced to spread their wings across Europe rather than the more traditional route to England, due to players not being allowed to join English clubs until they're over the age of 18.

Serie A youth squads are now stacked with Ireland youth internationals with the likes of Kevin Zefi, Cathal Heffernan and James Abankwah all on the books with some of the league's biggest clubs.

Festy Ebosele also left English football for Udinese last year, while Ed McJannett and Liam Kerrigan are also playing with Italian teams.

Serie A could see a huge rise in Irish viewing figures in years to come if all of these talents establish themselves at their respective clubs, but this summer, we could be about to see the biggest Irish move to Serie A since Robbie Keane joined Inter Milan in 2000.

Andrew Omobamidele linked with move to San Siro.

The Telegraph is reporting that Norwich and Ireland centre back Andrew Omobamidele could be on the move to Italy this summer. They're reporting that AC Milan are interested in bringing the 20-year-old to the club.

The Leixlip native has been one of the few bright sparks for the Canaries this year and with the club sitting in 12th place in the Championship, destined for another season in the English second flight, keeping hold of Omobamidele looks unlikely.

Norwich reportedly value the Irish defender at around £20 million and would likely cash in if a suitable offer comes. The Telegraph are also reporting that Ligue 1 outfit Nice are also keeping taps on Omobamidele.

A move to Serie A would certainly be appealing to Omobamidele, with AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori reaping the rewards after leaving English football for the club a couple of seasons ago.

From an Irish perspective, the idea of Andrew Omobamidele potentially partnering Cathal Heffernan in the centre of the defence for one of the world's biggest clubs in years to come is certainly something to be excited about.
