We don't know yet if the FAI were one of the 17 football associations who abstained in the vote on Sepp Blatter's presidency this morning in Zurich, but The FAI voted for Sepp Blatter today and economics aside, we're especially depressed that Abbotstown stayed mum as FIFA delegates from around the world unleashed a venomous anti-Englishness. Was the Queen's visit worth nothing? We were heartened to find the one Irish person in a role of nominal power willing to take a stand in public against Sepp Blatter. She may no longer have a position of political standing, but fair play to former Fianna Fail Senator Cecilia Keaveney of Donegal, who is somehow still the president of the Council of Europe’s Youth and Sport Committee, for issuing this rebuke of Blatter today.
