Michael O'Neill Arrested On Suspicion Of Drink-Driving
By Daniel Kelly

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill was arrested over the weekend in Scotland, on suspicion of drink-driving.

According to the Scottish Sun, O'Neill was pulled over by police in the early hours of Sunday morning outside Edinburgh. Despite managing his native Northern Ireland, the 48-year-old has based himself in Scotland in recent years.

A spokesperson for the Irish FA confirmed the association would not be commenting on the incident, citing it as a "police matter".

We are aware of an alleged drink driving incident involving Michael O’Neill. As it is a police matter, we will be making no further comment.

While the news is non-football related, it is sure to dominate the buildup to Northern Ireland's final two World Cup qualifiers next month. The side meet World Cup champions Germany in Belfast, followed by a trip to Oslo in the final round of fixtures.

Northern Ireland are guaranteed to finish in the top-three in Group C, and are all but certain to reach the two-legged play-offs in their bid to qualify for their first World Cup since 1986.

Speaking last week, O'Neill revealed that despite interest from numerous clubs, he has not intention of leaving the national team any time soon.

I signed a four-year contract. That hasn't changed.

My focus is purely on trying to get the team to Russia. For this group of players to follow off [Euro 2016] and get to a World Cup would be a magnificent achievement...

Club football is always mentioned, but for me it's not at the forefront of my mind at the moment.
