All of the country has been amazed by the generosity of the Aer Lingus pilots who volunteered to fly to China to collect essential protective equipment for frontline Irish healthcare workers. Yesterday a planeload of equipment arrived in Dublin Aiport and is being distributed to medical centres across the country. It's the first of many flights to China over the coming weeks for the Aer Lingus crew.

Unfortunately, today's Aer Lingus flight back to China hit a snag as the plane was forced to make an emergency landing back in Dublin after making 'bird strike'.

Aer Lingus issued the following statement about the flight this morning:

"EI9108 has returned to Dublin following a bird strike. Upon landing in Dublin it will be assessed by engineers and upon its clearance for travel a new departure time will be ascertained.”

The plane landed safely. Hopefully it will be back in the air soon.
