A brief spell of sunny weather has that has hit sporadic parts of the country has seen thousands of punters across the nation offer up their shirts and t-shirts as a sacrifice to the benevolent and all knowing sun god.

Parts of Dublin have been the worst struck by this seemingly spontaneous outburst of pagan offerings, with widespread incidents of de-robing occurring all along all of the capital city's major canals.

The communal event has seen people from all walks of life unite under the warm embrace of the sun, with the Barge deigned as the unofficial place of worship for those who wish to praise their new deity.

We spoke to Mick Gleeson, who left work early in order to worship his new god, and he told us of his delight at finding a religion he could really get behind:

I was looking out my window in work yesterday, and as the clouds parted and I felt the heat of the sun on my face I knew I had to repay  the sun god somehow. So naturally, I bunked off work, grabbed a slab of cans and headed down to the Barge.

When I got there, I felt this overwhelming urge to take off my top and offer it up to Helios, the Greek god of the sun, in thanks for the chance to get a bit of colour.

The recent burst of good weather has seen religion of sun worshipping increase exponentially over the last 48 hours, but meteorologists have warned that the religion faces trouble as scattered showers threaten to kill off the movement before it has the chance to get going.
